Vintage Family Photos

I think I mentioned last week that, just before Christmas, in a mad frenzy to find my roll of plaid ribbon, I unearthed 2 more boxes of ancient family photos that I had forgotten about and have been safely stowed in the craft room closet since we moved here from California.

Looking through them, it seems as though the bulk of these belonged to my great grandmother, aka Nana.  I have no idea who the majority of the folks are in these pictures, but many of them were taken between the turn of the century and the late 1920s.  And they are super cool.  So I thought I'd share a couple today, just for fun, and link up to the Sepia Saturday group - who you should totally check out if antique photos are your thing.  Just saying.

Anyway, I LOVE the tricycles in this one, and the showdown that seems to be going on.  I wonder who won?

I don't recognize any of the folks in this other picture, either, but the clothing is all kinds of awesome.  I love the "beach" attire...

Seriously fun.  If I find out who any of these folks are, I'll speak up.  For the moment, I'm going to wade back into the piles and see what other treasures are lurking.

Happy Weekend!

  2. Wonderful photographs : don't they just sum up the spirit of the times. I hope you have lots more and that you will share them on Sepia Saturday.

  3. The tricycles are gems, with their big rear wheels. Maybe they were just going to touch wheels. In the 2nd photo I think the dresses (or are they swim suits?) that two of the ladies are wearing are interesting with the criss-crossing ribbons down the front. I wonder if that was common for the time period. I'll have to begin paying attention. I hope you find identities!

  5. Could the two ladies be twins? They don't look alike but their outfits match right down to the sweaters. The first photo looks like it's in Pasadena by the looks of the Craftsman architecture.

  7. You are going to have a lot of fun. I find it to be almost overwhelming to get any of them organized, especially if you don't know who they are. I love the tricycle wars.

  8. when i think of my first tricycle, back in the mid 1960s, it was such a sturdy thing, and someone could climb behind, i find it odd to see such wiry things. i'd be afraid it would collapse at the least bump... but fun pic indeed!!
    thanx 4 sharing!!
